Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 July 2026
SolvFin ("SolvFin", "we", "us", "our") publishes solv-fin.com, a bookshop and educational resource about personal finance for young adults in the UK. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. We have written it in plain English rather than dense legal language, in keeping with the plain-speaking approach we take across the site.
1. Who is responsible for your data
SolvFin Ltd, 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom, is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. You can reach us at hello@solv-fin.com or by phone at +44 20 7123 4567 with any privacy question.
2. What data we collect
- Contact and enquiry details — if you use the "Book a free consultation" form or the newsletter/checklist sign-up, we collect the name, email address and any message you provide.
- Shopping activity — the contents of your cart and any demo checkout details you type in are stored locally in your browser (see Cookie Policy) so the cart persists between visits; on this site the checkout is a front-end demonstration and does not transmit card details to us or a payment processor.
- Quiz responses — your answers to the Money Personality quiz are processed entirely in your browser to calculate a result. We do not transmit, store or log individual quiz answers on our servers.
- Usage data — if you consent to Analytics cookies, we may collect anonymised or pseudonymised data about pages viewed, approximate location (country/region level from IP address), device type and referring site, to help us understand which books, articles and pages are useful.
- Technical data — standard web-server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) retained briefly for security and troubleshooting.
3. How we use your data
We use personal data to: respond to enquiries and consultation bookings; send the budget checklist and, where you have opted in, occasional relevant emails about books and money tips; keep the site secure and working correctly; and, where you consent, understand and improve the site through aggregated analytics. We do not sell personal data to third parties.
4. Legal basis for processing
Under UK GDPR, we rely on: your consent (for marketing emails and non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time); our legitimate interests (for essential site functionality, fraud prevention and basic security logging); and, where relevant, the steps necessary to respond to a request you make to us (such as a consultation booking).
5. Third parties and where data may be processed
Book information shown on this site (titles, authors, descriptions, cover images and prices) is served from a Supabase-hosted database. Purchases are typically completed with trusted third-party retail partners, including Amazon, via affiliate links — once you leave solv-fin.com to complete a purchase, that retailer's own privacy policy applies to any information you give them. We also embed Google Maps (to show our office location) and load Google Fonts; both may process limited technical data such as your IP address under Google's own privacy terms. None of these partners are permitted to use SolvFin visitor data for their own unrelated marketing.
6. International transfers
Some of the service providers above may process data on servers located outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on providers that maintain appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent adequacy protections.
7. How long we keep data
Enquiry and consultation-booking details are kept only as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable follow-up period, then deleted. Cart data lives in your own browser storage until you clear it or your browser removes it. Aggregated analytics are typically retained for up to 26 months.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; ask us to correct or delete it; object to or restrict certain processing; request a portable copy of data you provided; and withdraw consent at any time (including via the cookie settings panel). To exercise any of these, email hello@solv-fin.com. If you remain unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
9. Children's privacy
SolvFin is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls on our database provider — to protect personal data, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
